Biography

Suzy Gallier the Technical and Deputy Director of PIONEER HDR UK Hub for Acute Care. She is also the Head of Healthcare Data Research University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust. She has over 25 years’ experience of working in both public and private sector healthcare roles, including 10 years as a Director of Operations. This has enabled her to gain a broad understanding of numerous healthcare environments and the challenges faced.

Suzy’s research interests are centred around the use of routinely collected health data to improve healthcare pathways and treatments by understanding the symptoms and diseases people have when they become acutely unwell. Publications range from randomised controlled trial of a theory-based intervention and the examination of healthcare organisational responses to financial incentives through to the variability and performance of NHS England’s Right to Reside criteria in acute hospitals in England. Patients are always at the heart of all the research and projects that Suzy has initiated and delivered.

Suzy’s specialist areas include statistical analysis of health care data, clinical audit, data modelling and simulations, the design and use of complex databases, business and teaching skills.

As the Technical and Deputy Director of PIONEER, the HDR UK Hub in Acute Care, Suzy leads on the technology and data strategies, including the integration and transformation of siloed acute care health data. Projects involve working with NHS organisations, academia and industry to enable innovative researchers to test and deliver advances in acute care. Suzy is always looking for innovative uses of technology and data for PIONEER to ensure the products and services offered are both industry standard and cutting edge. Her work in supporting this programme ensures that health data insights are translated quickly into benefits for patients.
