Sebastian graduated from the University of Manchester with a BSc in Mathematics. During his undergraduate he carried out a summer research experience placement funded by the Medical Research Council into the placental structure and function in fetal growth restriction through image-based modelling. Following this, he studied at the University of Birmingham for his MSc in Applied Mathematics. Here his Master’s thesis included a collaboration applying image analysis techniques to monitor the adhesion of white blood cells in atherosclerosis. Sebastian then studied his PhD at the EPRSC CDT in Topological Design, sat in the School of Mathematics with his main supervisor Fabian Spill and supporting supervisor Iain Styles from the School of Computer Science. During this time, AstraZeneca co-funded the latter half of his PhD to specialise in multiplex immunofluoresence image processing and analysis.

After completing a Research Fellowship with the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Early Career Researcher Award, he now holds the position of Advanced Image Analysis Specialist at Birmingham Tissue Analytics at the Institute of Translational Medicine, University of Birmingham.

Sebastian is always open to collaborations so please feel free to contact him or if you would like to talk more about his work.
