David is a health data science PhD student at the University of Birmingham, supported by Health Data Research UK. He has an integrated master’s degree in physics from the University of Manchester, where he applied artificial intelligence to electrocardiograms for his research project.

His current research focuses on various AI applications in healthcare, such as finding new insights from electrocardiograms and studying the links between retinal imaging and renal diseases. David also worked with the NHS through the NHSX PhD internship scheme, where he developed a generative AI model to produce fair and privacy-preserving synthetic data.

He is enthusiastic about AI development within healthcare generally but also has specific interests in: imaging, fairness and interpretability of machine learning models, multimodal analytics, and unsupervised representation learning.
