Biography

Dr. Laura Bravo studied Biomedical Engineering in the University Carlos III Madrid, Spain where she worked in the Cajal Institute, Centro Nacional de Investigaciones Cardiovasculares (CNIC) and in the Gregorio Marañón Hospital . After a brief interlude in industry, she was given a Wellcome Trust 1+3 grant to pursue a Masters and PhD in Mechanisms of Inflammatory Diseases (MIDAS) at the University of Birmingham.

After submitting her PhD she is now a Research Fellow in the Gkoutos lab, working in machine learning and systems biology of diseases. Her main interests lie in better understanding the biological mechanisms underlying chronic inflammatory diseases and to do so, works in the interface between multimorbidity and ageing. Currently she is using UKBiobank data to study diseases trajectories and multi-modal phenotyping.

She is also an R carpentries instructor and part of the Spanish Researchers in the UK association.
