Dr Jo Palmer

Dr Jo Palmer (she/her) is research fellow working in the AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Digital Health team and is a core member of STANDING Together project team. The STANDING Together project is creating standards for datasets used in the development of artificial intelligence (AI) models in healthcare. The aim of this project is to reduce health inequalities for people from minority populations.

Jo has just recently gained her PhD in Medical Sciences from the Hull York Medical School, where Jo looked at an exercise intervention during a hospital admission to reduce postoperative outcomes in chronic limb threatening ischaemia patients.

Jo joined the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in 2020 as a research information governance manager and therefore has a strong background and keen interest in the governance of health data. Other research interests include the ethical use of data and health equity in the area of AI, as well as embedding the patient and public voice throughout all AI research activities.
