The HDR UK Midlands Conference Committee invites delegates to submit abstracts for lightning talk presentations at the HDR UK Midlands Annual Conference 2025.

Call for abstract submissions

HDR UK Midlands are looking for presentations on the full range of advances underpinning progress in health data science: from advances in technologies ensuring secure and effective access to health data, to new insights offering meaningful improvements in patient care and healthcare delivery.

Timelines:

Abstracts open: Wednesday 16 July 2025, 9 am BST

Abstracts close: Friday 15 August 2025, 5 pm BST

Abstract decision confirmation: Friday 22 August 2025, 5 pm

Abstract submitters acceptance confirmation: Friday 29 July 2025, 5 pm

Participants can submit an abstract for:

Oral lightning talk presentations (10 minutes)

Presenting your abstract

Presentations will need to be in person. If selected, you will need to accept your invitation to present and register as an attendee on our registration platform, via our event page.

We have 3 funded places for those who need support for travel and accommodation costs funded by the EPSRC eFutures Network+.

Accepted abstracts will be promoted on our website and event materials. Please provide all the requested information upon acceptance, including the speaker’s role, job title, biography, photo, etc.

Presenters are responsible for ensuring their presentations appropriately acknowledge all contributors and respect applicable legal, ethical, and data protection regulations (including, for example, copyright).

Judging of abstract presentations

The HDR UK Midlands Conference Committee, consisting of academics, industry professionals, across career stages, disciplines, and across the Midlands will evaluate the abstracts.

We are looking for high impact, innovative advances and new insights that align with our ethos (research quality, team science, scale, open science, patient and public involvement, and equality, diversity and inclusion).

In your application, provide clear evidence of several of the following selection criteria:

  • Scientific/technical quality and practical applications
  • Accelerating trustworthy use of health data to enable discoveries that improve people’s lives
  • Involvement and engagement of patients/service users, carers and the public at each appropriate stage of the research project life cycle
  • Evidence of recent impact e.g. contributing to improving healthcare and patient benefit or pathways to impact

HDR UK Midlands will let everyone know the outcome of their submission by Friday 22 August 2025, after review by our Conference Committee.

The HDR UK Midlands Annual Conference 2025, will take place on 11 – 12 September 2025, at the Charnwood Campus Science, Innovation and Technology Park, Loughborough. It will be a two-day in-person only event, celebrating the progress we’ve made and allowing us to come together and continue to build momentum in the health data research revolution.
