The Midlands Cancer Impact Collaborative (MCIC) is inviting universities, NHS organisations and industry partners to identify cancer innovations, expertise and challenges that could be scaled across the Midlands to improve patient outcomes.
The call for contributions will help shape the collaborative’s first programme of work, which aims to bring together healthcare providers, researchers, industry partners and funders to address some of the region’s most pressing cancer challenges. Contributions are being sought from organisations that can demonstrate opportunities for impact within the next one to two years.
Driving Cancer Innovation in the Midlands
MCIC was established as a partnership between the East and West Midlands Cancer Alliances, universities, NHS organisations, industry partners and research funders. Its goal is to accelerate the adoption of research, technology and innovative models of care that can improve cancer outcomes, patient experience and service performance across the region.
The collaborative is initially focusing on the Midlands Cancer Pathway Productivity and Control Programme, which will explore ways to improve cancer pathways through better use of diagnostics, pathology, artificial intelligence, operational redesign and data-driven approaches. Early work will focus on urological cancers, including prostate, kidney and bladder cancer.
Areas for Contribution
MCIC is seeking projects, expertise and innovations that support key Cancer Plan priorities, including:
- Improving cancer performance
- Earlier diagnosis
- World-class cancer research
- Personalised cancer care
- Living with and beyond cancer
- Reducing inequalities
- Children and young people’s cancer services
How to Contribute
Organisations are invited to bring either:
- A pathway challenge that would benefit from collaborative innovation and support.
- Relevant expertise, research, innovation or proven projects that could be mobilised and scaled across the Midlands within the next one to two years.

The deadline for submissions is Monday 31 August.
Early submissions are encouraged and will help inform project prioritisation ahead of the inaugural MCIC Steering Group meeting in September.
